putting a 904 together for a drag car, 400-450hp application. 5 clutch direct drum and matching pump. thick frictions w/ .015 per friction. forward clutch has .040 clearance. .062 washer between pump and direct and .062 washer between direct and forward. .060 washer between input and output shaft. suspended i get . 069 total endplay, set trans on output shaft and needle moves .035, lift up on input shaft moves another .032

All these numbers look to be in spec to me but the input moving .032 seems a bit high compared to some numbers ive seen by others. is this too much clearance and i need a thicker shim between the shafts or am i good to go?

Thanks

Remember that the unit is cold.
Once hot that number should get smaller.
As for the .032” not much really. I have a good stock unit in my shop and it is .058”

What shaft is it that you are measuring exactly? Aluminum expands at a hugely greater rate than steel. When the numbers INCREASE on a dial indicator that means BIGGER..
