904 isn't shifting into 3rd

I took my 72 dart for a little ride today and I had it up to 55 mph and it isn't shifting into 3rd gear. ??? What could the problem be??? Thanks for any help.

Has the tranny been rebuit recently or does it have alot of miles on it? Mine was doing the same thing(94000 origional miles). Tore it apart and found a seal in the front clutch was broken.

Does it even try to shift? If it goes 1st...2nd...2nd & 1/2... Your front clutches are toast. If it doesn't even try, it may be some crud in the valvebody. I had a Diplomat that did that to me. I found that if would get up to 70 or so, floor it and "flash" the selector through reverse, it would hold 3rd. Basically I was causing a massive spike in line pressure. NOT that I am advising such a drastic measure. In the end, I dumped 2 bottles of STP into the trans and sold it for $1000.

the trans probably needs to be resealed.

Mine was doing that a couple of months ago. I retorqued the band adjustment and it has been fine ever since.

Bands not applied in 3rd, just front clutch if I recall correctly.
