I'm putting together a footbrake 2900lbs Dart w/ 500-550 hp stroker 360 , 4.10 , ladder bar and 10 slicks . I can't sort out all the confusion as to what tranny to use the newer 904 or the 727. With this setup can I successfully use a 7290 joint or will it brake?

The 904 will work, but it will need to be properly built to last.
It definately has less parasitic loss and rotating weight than a 727.

Being you are only running a 4.10 gear I would build a 904 with a later 2.74 gear set. It will leave better than a 2.45 gear 904 or 727. The 7290 joints will be fine for a foot brake car. I am using a 7260/7290 adapter joint in the back of my '65 Valiant and it runs low 11's. I have the non-greaseable joints in my car because they are stronger being they are solid. I purchased them from CarQuest and were listed as HD joint, they also have urethane seals instead of rubber ones.
