I have a '64 Dart /6 + 904 with pushbutton linkage. Car is adrive w/160K miles. After it sat undriven for 4 months I drove the car 300' to a garage to clean things out.......a few days later I stratred the car to back out.

Here sithe problem: TRanny was in parl (lever down), slid lever up to take it out of park and it only goes about 80% toward the top of the slot. I discovered that the tranny will disengage from park by rocking the car. The buttons appear to be locked in "N" since the the lever is not at the top. What is the problem?

cable adjustment
tranny
push button assembly

Where can I find sone shift linkage drawings or maintenance tips? HELP!

sounds like your park lever/cable is stuck--- if it does not return to the proper position the other buttons think you are still in park.
See if your cable is ok-- it might just be tempermental, or your cable could be shot/stretched.
Rocking your car is messing up the parking pawl & rooster comb--- You really need to inspect that cable for visible damage.

The park lever is a separate cable going to the back side of the trans pan of the transmission. I just looked at my spare 904 pushbutton. When you raise the lever it pulls a arm which releases the "tiger paw". Your cable might be out of adjustment or the nut for the clamp may have came loose. The cable clamp has a 1/2 nut on a stud. The stud inside has a half round that the cable goes thru. When you tighten the nut it pulls the stud out until it pinches the cable in position. Tomorrow I'll look at the manual and give you more detail. I think I had the same problem once and pulled the cable out of the housing a little more and reclamped it. Jayson

JY,

THis starting to make sense. I have been doing interior cleanup and have not been under the car.. I would be interested in the adjustment specs.
