985 case center section

Any disadvantage of using a 985 case like more weight, strength, ...? I have heard these are older models of the 742 case. I have not seen many of these.

The 985 case has been used since 57 and stopped in 67.It came with a 1 3/8 pinion shaft,and was used on A-b-C-D body cars.Now they used revised cases in the next few years going to the 657 and the 741 case,all using a 1 3/8 shaft.From 59-68 the 742 1 3/4 shaft was also used.Is the 985 case for drag racing,NO way,but to move the car and do regular run around,not a problem,and should use all the parts for the 741 case,mrmopartech
