A 833 or A 230?

picked up this transmission

it has an inland shifter on it,, have to pull up to find reverse, I believe that I can find 4 other forward gears
3 shift rods
a 1&2
a 3&4(od)
a reverse

but the stamped number on the case pad is
7G 103 400
PP 230 5514

A230's are 3 speed transmissions, with 2 shift rods
a 1&reverse
a 2&3

was there a A230 OD? ,,, the car this is said to be out of is a 77 Volare
so it should be a A833 OD.
any ideas on why the pad is stamped pp230 ?

The numbers say its a 230. The shift tangs are not all hanging down like a 833 would be unless its a OD unit.
 
I agree the stamped numbers say it is a 230, I also agree that it the linkage is mounted like a OD unit,, and It seems like I can find 4 forward gears

were there A230 OD transmissions?

If you do a quick web search you will find it is a 230 3 speed (fully synchromeshes in all 3 gears) and yes it looks like a 833.

first photo
is what I think is an a230,, side loaded,, two shift rods
third photo
is what may be an a250,, top loaded, again two shift rods.
I have a PM out to Waggin, the person that posted those to confirm

Take this for what it is worth. I think that it is a mis stamp. I think it is a 1977 A/F Body OD A-833.
