Good day,

Looking forward to finding useful information about a 1970 Dodge Dart im picking up today.
Red 2dr bench seat 318 4spd. Looks to be in pretty good shape. Was a old racecar that wasn't hacked apart. Excited to take on the Mopar side as I am a diehard chevy guy but I don't discriminate. V8 and 4 speeds make me happy no matter the car.

Travelling 4 hours 1 way after work, Ill post more photos tomorrow.

All I know so far is it hasn't been registered since 2011 from Vin search and it needs a fuel tank. Ran when parked.

Welcome from metro-Detroit!

Looks like you may have found a, relatively rare, Dart GT (based on the badge on the quarter panel). Does the car still have the fender tag? If so, look for code A65 which designates the GT model. Does it have bucket seats and/or console?

Welcome from Southern Alberta.

Car looks very solid, nice find! If it is in fact a GT, it would have been originally equipped with buckets and console, and a 318/904 automatic transmission and a 7.25 rear axle. Looking forward to seeing more pics.

A little rougher than originally thought but still a great starting point! Going to give it a good bath and then look at what it needs to drive it a little bit before winter here in Canada. Do everything in build season and come back in summer.

Welcome! Nice Car! I see it has the 8.75 rear end in it as well !!!

Thank you! I have alot to learn, I take it thats a good! Haha
yes, that's a good thing. Also, those spring shackles are pretty much an old school thing.. lol. Many frown on them these days, I ran them back in the day and never had an issue.... A-body 4 speed set up and A-body 8.75 are some nice pieces to have, sought after for sure, especially the 4 speed set up! I'd say your off to a good start! Bones of the car appear to be very solid! Sought after year of car as well. Really nice score!

Awesome, Glad to hear. I plan on putting the interior back together as it was stripped for racing. Floors are solid on it, Some questionable wiring but nothing that cant be fixed. I think its going to be a fun project. Excited to share the progress.

speaking of wiring, I see it's been converted to electronic ignition. It would have been points from the factory

My '71 Dart GT has the factory installed 8 3/4" rear end (741 case, 3.23:1, sure-grip).

Also, there was a '71 Dart GT at the Mopar Nationals, a few years ago, that had bucket seats but no console.

1970 Dart GT cars may be very different than 1971 Dart GT cars, IDK.

In 1970 there were 191,986 Dodge Darts built.
181,100 of those were built in Winsor, Ontario, Canada.
only 30.3% of those cars had a V-8 of any kind.
I would bet your glove box door has a sign that says Dart Custom and your VIN starts with LH23
Every 1970 Dart GT is a Dart Custom with the A65 GT option
only 17,208 2 door Customs were made (far less than the 23,779 Swinger 340s)
The number of 2 door Customs with the GT option is probably pretty low and add to that the V-8 and a 4speed and it might be as low as a few thousand Dart GTs
that were so equipped. I sure have had a blast with my 1970 Dart GT!

Yep, that's my wife and Chief Navigator showing off her matching Plum Crazy shoes!

Yes this vin goes in this order that I found online to decode it:
L Dart
H High
23 2 dr. Hardtop
G 8-318 2 Bar. Carb.
0 1970
R Windsor, Ont., Canada

I dont recall seeing any decal or anything on the glove box. I will check again this afternoon on my lunch break. Going to try get it fired up this evening. I am sure it has a coolant leak somewhere, so I want to see where its coming from and get it fixed. Hope to get it plated and drive in the next two weeks, here are a couple more photos!

I didn't know that there were 4 speed GT's available, thanks, still kinda regret selling my 70 Dart GT.

no 4 speed console available in 1970, I believe, so that would explain the non-console floor shift and perhaps the related bench seat...

Nice car. Already has the “Chevy” under hood treatment (black out) and looks like it was painted red, used to be plum crazy. Very cool find.
