Part of an American soldiers training involves procedures to follow when captured. There are a series of subtle gestures and signals to use to convey messages. One of those is a crossing of the fingers to show that the soldier is being forced to unwillingly participate in something like some kind of propaganda photo or video showing them with the enemy and apparently getting along well. Page down and you will see a well-trained soldier demonstrating this technique.
