A1 on 76 Fender Tag ? what does it mean?

There's usually at least 2 numbers on a fender tag after a letter for example- A01
got a picture of the tag?

I did figure out by looking at quite a few fender tags that A1 is only on cars built after 1 Jan 1976.
It's not mis-typed.
