I am re-assembling the main shaft assembly of my 4-speed. After I pressed the bearing on, it felt gravelly when turned. That didn't seem right, so I removed it and pressed another one on. Same thing with the second bearing. Both bearings turned smoothly before being installed, and both feel gravelly after installation.
This isn't normal, is it? I've never experienced this with any other bearing assembly. I won't be able to contact my bearing supplier until Tuesday, and I am really interested in some opinions.
Did I simply get two bad bearings? If anybody has any thoughts on the subject, I could really use some input.:banghead:

your pressing only on the inner race correct? If your sleeve/tube touches the retainers they can be bent out of shape.

When the first one went bad, I thought that might be the case. So, on the second install, I used a different tool and was very careful to keep pressure only on the inner race. Unfortunately, I got the same result.
