I am runniung around .020" side to side clearance per pair of rockers arms on mine. But I run the Comp Cams Pro Magnum steel rockers which will have a different expansion rate compared to aluminum. I believe Comp calls for a minimum of .030" side to side clearance which I thought was excessive so I ask some pro engine builders who told me the slightly tighter clearance would be fine. So far so good.

What does the instruction sheet that comes with the rockers say to run?

And do not over tighten the rocker shaft hold downs. Around 18 foot / pounds is all that is needed. Otherwise you will crush the shafts and/or snap the bolts and create problems.

I run the Crane rockers and I have mine at around .060. between two rockers. I don't think it's real important as long as the roller tip keeps full contact on the valve stem. I did have to shave the sides and use shims to get them aligned with the valve tip.

If the clearance is too tight they will bind when the engine gets hot and that will cause some big problems.
