One of the first things many people do to their classic car is to add a tachometer.
I've seen many styles and many different mounting locations for tachometers, and I've decided I want one for my 1974 Dart.
I'm new to the tach game, however, so I've got a couple of (probably easy) questions:

What exactly do I need to look for in a tach for my 74 Dart?
I know its got electronic ignition, so I don't know if that complicates things.
I know there are a lot of different tachs out there, but I don't know which is right for me.

What do I need to wire the wires of the tachometer into?
I've got a lot of automotive wiring experience, but I've never wired up a tach.
Whats the easiest way to do so?

Where should I mount it?
I know this is a personal preference kind of thing, but I'm interested in seeing all of your creative mounting methods if you've got pictures.

Thanks for your help!

This is where I mounted the SW in my cop car. To keep it mounted solidly,I put a piece of 2 sided body moulding tape on the backside of the mounting bracket and then put locktite on the a pillar screw that I pulled out and used to mount the bracket.

As for the tach.I've had good luck with SW,but it really depends where they are made these days. Try to find something made here rather than overseas. Autometer is my favorite brand for gauges

There are many ways to mount your tach. Most people mount there tach to the steering column, with a hose clamp.

I couldnt mount mine on the steering column because of my column shifter,so I mounted mine using one of the screws of the instrument cluster.

There are many good brands you can use. I used Auto Meter sport comp gauges.

A very cool old school tach is being reproduced, and is a very good entry level tach. SunPro ACP7901. Sells for around $40.00
Check it out on the www.summitracing.com

Thanks guys.
I didn't know the other tach thread existed, some good examples there.

Anyone got an opinion on that Summit tach?
I'm seriously considering purchasing it, as its on sale right now.
