I have read in a number of threads that if you go to a posi in an 8 3/4" rear you need to take the center button out of the unit in order for the axles to fit in the rear. Since the button in a regular set up allows you to adjust the end play for both axles from one end, is there any harm in using two adjustable retainers in stead of one fixed and one adjustable?

umm...from my understanding, you only need to remove that thrust button if you are using aftermarket axles from moser or strange, because they are just a hair longer...You do not need to remove the thrust button when installing a "sure grip"...:)

Most of the time it will need to be removed if the axles have what are called green bearings on them. The factory bearings are tapered and have to be adjusted for the proper tightness. Green bearings are fixed and don't have any adjustments on them.
