Alternator internal reg. or external reg ??

Going to purchase a new alternator. Some show internal regulator some say external. My 72 Dart has a regulator mounted on firewall.If I get an internal reg., what do I do with the wiring that went to reg. on firewall? Anything ?
I dont know much about eletrical, I just want to do it right.

If you don't know much about wiring then I would suggest you get a stock replacement alternator. The internally regulated ones have much more output than a stock alternator and will require rewiring the whole charging circuit because the stock wiring can't take the current that is output.
