My alternator is acting up (mopar), it has the 1 main wire with the nut and two slip on wires, Does it matter where the two slip on wires go? Whats the best way to test an alternator, I barely made it home tonight, my lights were pretty dim.

Most likey the alter. is dying or dead. Take it off and take down to an alter. shop or parts house and have them test it.

Doesn't matter if the blue and green wires are switched around. It will work the same either configuration. Could also be a problem with the regulator but like 67gts said the easiest way is to take them to the auto supply to have them tested.

Start the car, turn on the headlights, touch either one of the field wires to the motor to ground it, if the lights get real bright its the regulator.

>About touching or grounding the wires, Do you disconect the wires then ground the alternator field post?

Whats the system voltage with the engine above 1500 RPM? Do you still have a functioning AMP gauge? What does it show?
