Hello to all,

I was always into motorcycles for as long as I can remember, I blame my father for this. I remember him coming home in '93 with his brand new Harley, coolest thing I ever saw as an 8 Year old. I grew up in one of the more rural parts of eastern Suffolk county. We always had an atv or a dirtbike to ride, I loved that part of my child hood. As I grew up my love for things 2 wheeled grew with me, from dirtbikes to enduros to finally my own Harley. It was a Sporty, but it was all mine. I rode every chance I could, and with the increasing gas prices I rode even more. Until the one night....

I remember the night so well, it was one of those nights that you couldn't find a cloud if you sat there staring at the sky for an hour. I was supposed to meet up with my girlfriend for an Italian ice. Someone else had decided that I had enough sweets that day, and turned directly into the side of me. After 2 months in the hospital; three of those weeks in ICU, 15 surgeries all together. I emerged alive and with the brains to never to ride a motorcycle again...

So its been a year and a half now, and I think I'm finally ready to start getting behind the wheel again. I had to sell my Honda, I cant drive a manual transmission anymore due to the extensive nerve damage to my right lower leg. It really broke my heart selling that car, considering I bought it brand new at the time. So after a couple weeks of shopping around.... I found it!
I am now the proud owner of a 1973 Plymouth Duster. It was funny shopping for the car, people would ask "what kind of car did you have?'' "2008 Civic si" I would reply laughing.

I am not at all a mechanic, but thankfully my father is. I caught allot of crap buying such an old car from everyone. You would think they would be happy to find out that I don't want to sit at home for the rest of my life. Some people just don't think before they speak... The car isn't restored, and needs some loving, but again its all mine..

Be safe all,

Mike

Welcome. Glad you survived you MC crash. My bike has been sitting in my garage for years. I get the itch to throw a leg over it but the wife doesn't like the idea. So I guess that's where it will stay. I really should not even think about as I have screws and plates in my neck already. I have had a heart attack also. So think I will keep working on my Cuda. Have fun with your Duster. Bill

welcome aboard Ike

im actually recovering from a broken ankle sustained during a slow "cruise through the woods" on my KDX 200

glad to hear you survived the crash, it is amazing how some people just cant see motorcycles even when they are right in front of them
not to pry, but will you be able to drive an auto since it is your right leg that is hurt?
(I broke my left ankle and boy did that hurt to shift the bike...I actually got the video from my helmet cam but it sounds like a bad porno movie, 8 minutes of me grunting and groaning trying to get back to the parking lot)

I would say that duster is a HUGE step up from the Honda you had before
ive been window shopping myself for one for years now and I almost have the wife convinced that's it is in the budget ;)

oh yes, pictures please

Welcome to FABO and congratulations on finding your 73 Duster! I read with much dismay your story and can only say thank The Lord that you are alive and able to enjoy your new chapter in life!! Please share with us some pics and your progress as you work towards your first outing with "Dusty"!! Geof

Welcome aboard! I've been on motorcycles since a baby. My folks used to put me between the on a Honda as a baby to get me to go to sleep. I wouldn't go to sleep otherwise! Lol I don't think I could ever part with a bike. I have a strong itch to get another when I have the cash. Have fun with the duster! You'll like it a lot

I've been on motorcycles since a baby.

ive putted around the yard on my KDX a couple of times with the boy on the tank
just run a strap a couple a times around the both of us and hes "buckled" in just fine
(think he was 2 the first time I did that)

Hey, welcome aboard Mike. Thank God you survived that bike accident and still have all your marbles and the ability to do what you are able to do! And now you've got an A-body! I think you'll enjoy learning about it.....they're great cars.

Yup, I laid my old Buell down on the freeway back in 2000. That wasn't too fun, and it taught me that I wasn't so invincible. Now I only pleasure ride now and then, not commute to work anymore. Toss up some pics if you get a chance and ask away on the car questions......

Welcome to FABO I hated reading about your crash. I am glad you got a Duster to get around with, you will find there isn't nothing you can't do to it.
