Hello,
I picked up a ford 8.8 this winter. Actually came out of a lincoln mark 7. Appears to measure 61 inches backing plate to backing plate. Disc brake, posi traction, and axles are equal lenght . Will this fit under my 72 valiant?
Obviously i know perches, and u bolts / shock plates are different. But the actual width close enough to work?

Doesn't one axle tube need to be cut down? something about A body drive trains not "centered"

Not sure. Going to look again when i get home. The axles are equal lenght. I think the pumpkin is centered.

Don't know of anyone using the Lincoln rears, that being said the ford explorer rear is in the 59.5 in width, and people are cutting down the long side and installing a short side axle making it equal length. That is putting it some where in the 56.5/57" in range if my memory serves me right.
