The Dart surprised me last week when I found that one of the previous owners had replaced the original 904 with a 727.

So today I was buttoning things up from the converter swap and noticed something weird about the rear end. Can't believe I didn't notice it before, but I didn't pay much attention because I bought the car assuming it was all original drivetrain. Sweet!

I had looked at the car several times in the 5 years or so that I chased it, but mostly investigated the body condition. I personally knew the the first of the 3 owners I tried to buy it from. It had been in his family for over ten years and he said that the drivetrain was original, so I took a quick look at the fender tag and saw 318/904/low performance rear axle, and didn't think much more about it.

I did verify the original 318 is still in it. Only thing better than finding out it's now a 727/8.75 woulda been if someone had put a 340 in it along the way. Can't win 'em all! LOL!
