Anyone had experience with Phoenix Engines?

Several years ago i worked at a well known auto parts retail chain store in Florida. We sold Phoenix engines and I saw almost every one of them returned to the vendor for various problems. As I recall, they would do things like bore one cylinder out of eight and install one oversize piston, reuse/regrind worn camshafts, just generally do things the cheap way. I don't know if their quality has improved over the years, but my experience says stay away from them. I have heard better things about Jasper engines.
