Anyone have a metal ceiling in their shop?

Have a Metal Ceiling in my Florida home.

Looks nice and uniform, fiberglass insulation above and keeps the heat out great.

Ceiling is tied in with the new framing on the walls > Hurricane Proof... Strong.

Like it a lot, looking at it now as laying back in the reclining chair.

Galvanized.. you'll never regret it! Free light reflection ..

Hmmmmm! I had never thought of that (the reflection off bare/galvanized metal), and it gives the space a somewhat “industrial” look which, given the application, seems apropos.

Not sure I could commit to it now, but I will DEFINITELY keep this in mind!

Thank you!

Looks like you and @dadsbee are on the same wavelength here.

Thank you for the picture!

I have a metal ceiling in my shop. Depending on heat & humidity levels, sometimes there is some condensation / sweating. My shop is huge (120' x 145') so it is not climate controlled, except for my office room.
Not really a problem.

If all goes well the walls in my metal building will be insulated (outer layer only) by the end of the week, and I’m trying to decide what to do with the ceiling. Don’t want sheet rock, and I’m thinking metal panels, but never worked with them on the ceiling before.

Anyone have experience here, and/or pics?

Thanks!

Jim
I did metal the first thing to my garage when we bought this place , painted it white , haven't touched it since , other than mount s ceiling fan to it ...

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned why those ridges are formed into the steel. It's not for appearance, they provide rigidity. And when you put the panel flat, it would take a whole lot more support to prevent sagging without the ridges.

Right! But those major ridges are a little more prominent than I may want….

I found a panel with a relatively more sedate and/or “regular” pattern that I may just pull the trigger on.

I used 1/2” R-max board from Lowe’s. 4x8 sheets, one man can easily put it up. A bucket of the red washer nails did my 28’x36’ shop with half a bucket left, all nailed to the trusses. Put the shiny side down, it helps reflect the lights better and helps with the heat in the winter.

Got the additional perlins installed. Over 100* up there on the scaffold (I measured it out of curiosity), but it’s done, with an average center-center of 40” between trusses. Should be good enough to hang a metal ceiling with insulation.

Got a huge mess out here, and it’s gonna get worse before it gets better (have to build some walls now), but I’m making progress.

I have metal in my shop. It's 30x40 so I got 20 ft sheets and just overlapped them in the middle. Put them all up by myself with a fixture I made that hung from the trusses. They're screwed right to the trusses.

Nice!

Pretty sure I'm going to order 14' 6" panels, as the local building center said I could order them "to the inch", and that should work out nicely with the trusses...not to mention my abilities!

Here are some videos of my friends building, he did the metal ceiling and walls
