Looking to see if anyone is interested in trading their A-body for my mid to high-12 second street car. What I have is a VERY solid 1983 AMC Spirit that I'm installing a rebuilt and built up AMC 360 and 998 trans into. How do I know it will run 12s? This engine and trans combo was in my 78 AMC Concord before being pulled so the Concord could get some bodywork done to it. Last year, this combo in the Concord, on slicks, ran a 13.09 before ANY tuning and with a too small 600 vac sec Holley carb. The Concord also weighs at least 300 pounds more than the Spirit. Besides the Concord having 4.10s and the lighter Spirit having 3.54s, everything else will be the same since it will be the same engine, trans and converter. Since I haven't finished the install yet, I'm not looking to trade for a month or more (maybe even into the first part of spring so I can try it at the track!), but thought I'd get the word out there now to start looking.

What am I looking for? I'm looking for a SOLID 2 door that needs NO bodywork and preferably has good paint. I can do mechanical, but would like to have a nice looking cruiser and don't want to have to do any bodywork. No too concerned about the engine. A small block would be nice, and a big block would just be awesome(!), but even a real nice slant 6 car is okay. I'd REEEEALLY like a a stick car, but would consider an auto, especially if floor shift. I'm not set on any one car and am pretty open, but I'm partial to 70-72 Dusters, 71-72 Demons and 70-72 Darts. That's not all I like, though, so if you have something else you might want to trade, let me know (really, anything). I'd also prefer a non-original or modified car as that's what I want to do with it anyway, but I'm not about to turn away someone if they want to trade a nice original Duster or Demon 340, either (I'm dumb, but I'm not stupid! :-D).

Why am I trading this car? A couple reasons. First, I miss having a Mopar. I've had a few B-bodies, but never an A-body and have always wanted one. Next, because I have four others AMCs that I can play with and am always getting more! I'm currently having the bodywork done on my 78 Concord two door that's getting a 416 stroker motor (AMC, that is) and will hopefully get the car into the 10s. I also have a 69 Javelin (390/auto) and 71 hornet SC/360 resto projects plus a 77 Matador coupe cruiser. I love AMC, always will, but do like other cars besides them and would like something different. Mopars have always been right up there with AMC for me, so this was my natural first thought.

So, let me know what you have. I'm pretty open as to what the car is I'm trading for. I'd even consider some other Mopar other than an A-body. I'm thinking the Spirit is worth around $5000 (give or take), so figure what your car is worth and if it sounds like a decent trade to you. I don't really have any cash, so it would have to be a straight trade or your car plus a little cash, but it would probably be more fair for both parties on a straight trade. One thing I do have to go with the Spirit is a low mileage (60-something thousand), but rusty, 73 New Yorker 4 door with a steel crank 440, 727 and 8 3/4 rear. I'd throw this in for the right deal. It runs great, but the body is pretty bad. Would be a great big block donor it you want to go that route.

PM me and I can send you a complete rundown on my car with pics. I'm brutally honest in my descriptions as I don't like anyone to have any surprises. Here's a couple teaser shots from a show I took it to a few years ago. The 14" Magnums are gone now, replaced by some black 15x7 Cop Car rims. Thanks for reading!

Thanks. I'd be interested in your spirit if I wasnt so attatched to my duster. Spirits make really great street machines.
