Are Hughes Converters any good?

Speaking of Mopar factory converter stalls .
What is the normal rating from Mopar for their stall speeds ?
I have some that are marked Low Stall with a decal,,,and some with High Stall .
What was the nominal rating from Mopar ?

I had a FSM that listed these ratings. Most 318 904's (NLU) were between 1900-2150. 727's slightly lower, like 1800 or so. 340's/383's were higher, but I don't remember exactly, maybe 2300. Of all the mopars I've had, I've never had a factory converter go above 2300 (this is with a factory or next to factory stock engine). IF you build an engine that has more torque, you'll get more stall.

So 2300 was the top of the scale for a Hi Stall unit ?
I thought I had read something like 2400-2700 ?

It's completely dependent on engine torque output. A 440 six pack auto for example, might ring out as much as 3200 with slicks and 4.10 gears.

Never read it in the shop manual, never experienced it in any of my cars. I've seen it said too. Again, if somebody adds 50 ft lbs of torque at 2000 rpms to their engine, then they'll see more out of the stock converter.

Yes,,,,,I understand that completely,,,,I’ve always known that .
However,,,,I know that Mopar had a fairly good handle on their ratings for stock engines.
And I know that a race engine will add a lot to the stall range .

I’m just trying to figure out fairly close to what a Hi Stall rated converter would be for a stock engine.
What I’m planning is a warmed over version,,and a Hi Stall unit would probably fit my needs .
This is still a street car,,,,sweet running driver,,,but I think a factory unit will do my purpose ?

I’ve used 2 of their converters and both worked fine. Been over 10 years on both and still working fine. Only thing I noticed was they didn’t quite stall as high as advertised, but that happens to a lot of off the shelf converters. That’s why I now always order them for the specific vehicle

I've got a 3500 Hughs convertor in my 68 505 fastback , no problems for 12ish yrs. , maybe a hair loose for a street car ...

I've heard decent things about Hughes converters. Are you sure it's new? Converters are something I won't by used unless I know and trust the guy who owns it
Used converters make good door stops and cores. Like you say, if you know the guy that owns it, maybe OK, otherwise how do you know what the internal condition is like. And on high stalls, just because my RIP ROARER 10" works great in my car, doesn't mean a thing unless your car is identical to mine in every way. JMHO

It all depends on what's in front of it. They can stall anywhere from about 1900 to 2400. Also, what vehicle is it in, and what was the vehicle built to do? So, I guess there is no real nominal rating.
