i purchased a nice ash tray assembly from e bay. After sanding & painting, I assembled the tray and frame assy to the dash and noticed the lower gap from tray to frame is about 7/16". Is this correct, looks a little large to me. The fit is fairly flush at the top of the tray and overall it is slightly underflush on each side, but acceptable. Is the 7/16 lower gap normal ? 1972 dash from a duster going into a 73 sport dart. It looks like I am going to have to recoat the tray as I put a mar in the paint when handling

Totally normal.

But you will have to get on the floor and look up to see if when the dash frame is installed

Will the carpet on the transmission tunnel be offended looking at that gap?

Maybe the carpet likes looking at gaps?

After 56 to 47 years you kind of get to liking things you once were offended by

thanks for the replies. Guess no one will ever see it anyway. Just didn't want to make an obvious mistake while I have it out of the car.

Until you posted I had never looked or noticed. 56 years I have been with this car and now it's all I can think of!
