Ashtray position

1969 Dart 2 door, on the back seats, does the ashtray face to the front of the car or to the rear? I am thinking they face towards the front.

To me it seems that if they face back. When open the passanger can see what they are doing.

Just realized what you are asking...
Does the arm rest hole for the ash tray sit toward the front of the car or the rear.


2 ways to determin the most correct answer...

The part number on the arm rest will end in an odd or even number.

The part numbers ending in an odd number are for the driver side and part numbers ending with an even number are for the passenger side.

My bet is the hole is toward the front of the car.

Scrapping off some of the foam on the not installed rest: top line 1216D KZ
bottom line C218R
No Chrysler emblem I can see. In the C218R, maybe the R means right side? Maybe tomorrow afternoon I will pull the one I installed back off & look at it's number.

That is incorrect.

As stated...Ashtray should be forward, so you can flick your ashes without having to move your arm and cigarette toward the back of the car.

To access the ashtray in the rearward position your arms would have to be very short.
