AUTO METER GAUGE WIRING HELP

I just made a dash gauge cluster for my barracuda. I got a good deal on some auto meter gauges. speedo, tach, fuel, volts, water, oil gauges. I got the all wired in except for the lights. I know the black wires are gonna go to a ground & the white wires are going to a power source. I would like to hook them up so i can dim them just like the original dash lights. Anyone have an idea where i can hook them up to ?

If your headlight switch works properly and dims the dash lights, tie into the hl switch connector.

Yep, tie to the orange wire, that is dash lights.

The orange should be the correct wire BUT...

It is always helpful to know...

What car?
What year?
What modifications?

Do you know for sure that white on the auto meter is the illumination power feed and black is the ground?

I did the same thing. Yes auto meter is white for light feed. Yes also if you want to dim with the headlight use the orange wire(s). And as said provided you know where the orange wires come from and go on your specific model..Swingn’

Then orange is your friend! You can pick it up at the wires that went to the OEM cluster or the orange that goes to the radio or gear shift indicator.
