b body on an a body

ok guys...here is the question of the hour...i have a b bod 8 3/4 out of a 69 RR...if the spring perches are moved in will i have issues getting a tire underneath the rear? i know its a silly question but my mind never stops...thanks gang!

I have heard that the actual perches on a b-body rearend are only about 1/2 inch off from an a-bodies and that the whole thing is only 1" wider and can be bolted in and used as-is...wide wheels may need an offset?? Never done it personally but this is what I have been told. Anyone else hear this???

Yup. I believe the pre 71 B-Body rearends are more narrow that the later models, and the wheel offset is the key to success. As mentioned, the spring perches will need to be moved to the proper A-Body location on the housing.

Yes, it will work. Had a 70 Duster with a 69 83/4 rear out of
a Charger. The spring perches need to be moved. But thats the
only problem. I had 15x7 rims on the back with no offset. Had
235/70-15 tires. I have an E body rear in my present Duster
with no problems. 15x8 rims 41/2 in back space. 255/70-15s on
it. Also no problems. I would say go for it.

I used an old B body rear in both my 71 Dart and my 73 Dart, had to have custom back spaced wheels to clear the quarter panel wheel well lip (needed 6" of back spacing and the goofs at stockton wheel only gave me 5 1/2", still made it work), if you wanna get fancy you can usually narrow up an old B body rear about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch on each side with out needing new axles (thats how I made them work when the wheels were wrong, send me a pm and I will fill you in on the details of it if your interested), you also need to relocate the spring perches, requires cutting off the old ones and welding on new ones, great time to make certain your pinion angle is dead on along with the squarness of the axle housing to the rest of the vehicle.
