back up lights

Tell me about it:
When I went to register my 66' Barracuda back in like 1989 they made me install seat belts even though the car did not have them to begin with. The DMV inspector told me it was a shame because even he know it was an option in 66'.

Front seat belts were standard equipment on US cars starting from '64. They came in your '66 from the factory. What was optional was retractors for the seat belts.

the color of the high beam indicator. It was factory... I never touched it.
I don't remember, but I think it was red and he told me it "had to be blue."

On that one the inspector was wrong; first year for the blue high beam indicator was '77.

Hey Tommy....you don't have to get it inspected here in NC if it's 35 years old or older. I'd still want back up lights, but no inspection required.
In PA it depends on how the vehicle is registered, classic reg. still requires insp. but the reg. is permanent & You do not pay a yearly renewal, antique reg. is also permanent but does
not require state insp. at all......though there are operating/mileage restrictions(not always obeyed).
Ooops, also meant to add, it is also illegal to back out onto a road in PA as well,
tho' it is rarely enforced. It just gives 'em more to hit You with if You do it like a
jerk, & they take exception, then well.........................

Was the high indicator standardized/mandated to be blue per NHTSA then, or did Mopar just get around to using it then?

Check your harness in the trunk, there might be a purple wire with a female connector on each side. If it does you can get a light socket from autozone and crimp a male spade connector on and connect it that purple wire and I'll bet you'll get back up lights:thumbsup:

And yes no inspection needed in NC!!!

here's a picture of that connector

My step daughter moved to Raleigh 2 year ago and loves North Carolina. When I visit, I am amazed at the state and how it is much easier to live in than Connecticut... But blown away by 1" of snow and the whole state shuts down. Being A New Englander my whole life it does not bother me one bit. lol!

I lived in Connecticut for a while, its pretty laid back here in the Carolinas

snow in certain parts of the south is just too uncommon for the state to exhaust its budget buying snow removal equipment and de-ice solution for a event that that is only fleeting as it never is on the ground long...while it blows the mind of many deep north folks who visit....we in the south will always leave you with your cold wet snowy winters with no animosity whatsoever...to see snow...that is what the travel channel and pictures books are for..and yes I did live in the north for many years....the overall conditions and cost of living...forget about it....its all yours.....:usflag:
