I have a 67 notchback, but the last number in the VIN is a 6 which means it is a 66.
How can this be???

Your VIN should look something like this ( this is from 68 FSM so substitute "7" for the model year in the 6th space)

don't feel bad.

We all have been there.

"You don't know, till you know!"

BTW free Factory Service Manuals are available at mymopar.com They do not have a 67 Barracuda manual, but they do have a 67 Dart and a 1967 Plymouth Service Manual Supplement which covers Barracuda. Get the 68 Plymouth manual too, most of the info in there will apply to 67.

Here is the same page for 1967. Note that the Assembly Plant code is numeric rather than alphabetical. So all digits after the 5th will be numerals.

I just realized that means that the numeric sequence for all 1967 Barracudas would begin with "72", following the engine code.

not necessarily. the 7 is the model year and the 2 is the assembly plant. (Hamtramck) were all Barracudas built in Hamtramck or other plants too? that I don't know.

This could be your VIN

BH23D72100001

B=Barracuda
H=High price range
23 = Notch
D=273 2bbl (could have been a /6 = A or B or a 273 4bbl =E or a 383 = G)
7 = model year 67
2= Hamtramck
100001 = serial number

I made some edits here for clarity...

Note there is a error in your 67 book, E is the 237 4bbl not the 318. The 318 is an F and would have been the Poly motor not an LA.

UNLESS Plymouth did not differentiate between the 273 2bbl and the 273 4bbl in 67

Here is from a real 1967 DODGE FSM bought in 67 by my dad

B=Barracuda
M=Mid price range (could have been Low Mid High or Premium)
23 = Notch
D=273 2bbl (could have been a /6 = A or B or a 273 4bbl =E or a 383 = G)
7 = model year 67
2= Hamtramck, But could have been other locations
100001 = serial number
Yes, all Barracudas were built in Hamtramck — that was my point. Good catch on the E-code... it's funny that the 68 book lists E as "273 H/Perf" when there was no "273 HP" in 1968. So both years have a mistake in the manual.

All.67-9 cudas had H for 2nd digit.
That's right — they were all considered "high" price cars.

The letter sequence always begins "BH2...", and the final numbers begin "72..." The only variable other than the final 6 sequence numbers is the 3, 7 or 9 for body style followed by the letter code for the engine. Yes, I know the body style is two-digit but on Barracudas the first digit is always "2", since there are only 2-doors in the line.

The interior is gone. It has 4 speed hump I would like to make it a Joe dirt barracuda but I want to find out what I have before I go to the slaughter house with it I don’t want to hurt it ‍♂️♂️

I just wanna find out what kind of car I have before I start popping wheelies
from the info provided on the VIN you should know the original engine it will either be a /6 or a 273 or a 383

/6 modify the hell out of it

273 2bbl - keep the 273 but modify the heck out of it

273 4bbl - keep the 273 and restore it

383 4bbl - keep it and restore it

note there is a error in the 67 book, E is the 237 4bbl not the 318. The 318 is an F.

The online version is not 100% correct.

Now I'm puzzled.... you say this is from a "real" 1967 FSM... well, the page I showed I just photographed from my bound paper 1967 Plymouth FSM, and the formatting of this information is completely different. Ah — your picture must be from the 1967 DODGE manual, right?

yes from the 67 Dart, Coronet and Charger manual that my dad bought in 67 and used for the next 40+ years. It seems to have a publishing date of 8-66 (center bottom of the 3rd photo)
