how big of a deal is the art of balancing. I mixed a crank shaft from a '65 A 318 with a 73 la 318. it was in better condition. it;'s got stock pistons and rods. what do you think
The concerns would be bob weight of the each rod and piston from one motor to the other and the components used on each,and the weight difference,that weight would be cause of any vibrations.Where both cranks cast or forged,and the trannys where standard or automatic?Mrmopartech
as long as you use the complete set of matching late rods and pistons- you can get away with it- ALL 318 were internally ballanced regardless of what kind of crank, year or tranny. Is it the best idea?- for a performance application no- but if your just trying to get something back on the road- go for it just make sure you use the WHOLE SET of late rods!!!
