What exactly does it do? I changed from points a Pertronix kit and was told I didn't need the resistor, and Ive been told the opposite. If not needing it is true how would I go about rewiring, anyone with experience would be helpful.

The ballast resistor limits the amount of current flow in the circuit and works in conjunction with the coil. I don`t know about the use of it with the Pertronix unit but a lot will depend on what coil you use.

I`d say if you`re in doubt, use it. The resistor really starts working hard at slow engine speeds and less as speed increases. Even if you don`t need it , it shouldn`t affect your engine performance.

When I dig deep in my memory, doesn´t it say so in the instructions to use
the resistor, ohhh just a minut I´ll have a look, yeap it says so in the instructions.
