I have had balast resistors get hot, and so has my budy who has a '70 dart.

I don't know how normal it is, but it has happend to my vehicles befor.

I think it's pretty normal. I've been using MSD for years now, but seem like the ballast used to stay hot.

Start mode, almost 12 v, key on, about 8 v. Turn the key off, you are burning the points.

different model coils have diferent impedence (ohms)so voltages vary across coil or ballast resistor.as rpms increas coil impeadence goes up causeing coil voltage to rise and resistor voltage to go down.just letting people Know the numbers very a bit dont get hung up in decimal points
