barbell lifters

My 273 originally had barbell solids lifters, the replacements I got are solid (they don't have the recessed ring). My question is will they work? Is there a purpose for the barbell shape of the old lifters? With the problems I have had with getting the upper end of this engine together I kind of hate to hear this answer.

They work, and might be lighter than your newer "solid" lifters. They get sketchy on big lift cams as the ring might actually rise above the lifter bore, losing oil pressure. I bought some and used them for a B, worked fine with adjustable rockers. Made by Johnson and had to buy 'em 12 at a time with 4 loose.
