bedding in brakes ?

AND then we all died from Asbestos !
Kinda waiting for the hammer to drop on me on that one, as I spent years in the basement of a “ma and pa” auto parts store bagging up old brake shoe cores and putting them in burlap bags. Asbestos so heavy in the air you would think someone had been sandblasting down there…

So far though, I’ve been very fortunate.

So far…..

The trouble with these cheap chineseoizationized drums and rotors is, NObody has brake lathes anymore. I have an Ammco drum/ disk lathe. You do have to hold the cross carriage in gear by hand, something is worn in there. I put it to good use when doing the old Cummings to 4WD
Good man!

Fortunately our local O’Reilly’s still has a brake lathe, but the manager has confided in me that it doesn’t get a lot of use, and he feels that Corporate may take it away from them someday. Every time I’ve seen him since then I remind him that I would be interested in buying it…..

Yup, not a new thing. I've done it with every car I've done brakes on that I could drive and so has my dad. I just put new pads and rotors on the suv and probably over did it a little, but it's fine. My 1125r was ridden by an old man who braked lightly leading to a mild head shake when braking firmly. The consensus I got when asking for advice was the same as bedding in pads, but harder to burn off excess pad material on the rotor. So after 20 minutes and a few 90-20 hard stops I got rid of that problem.
