What is the best best carburetor rebuild kit for a Carter AFB Competition Series 9636 SA 625 cfm? There seems to be a lot of them.

I would try to get one that has the leather acc pump plunger. They last forever, compatible with all fuels.

A Carter Zip Kit is my 1st choice, if you can find one. I think the number is 902-317A. I'll check later. I just picked up a couple a while back on ebay.

After Carter went out of biz, Federal-Mougal made the AFB carbs and all there parts. I have t had a problem with there replacement parts yet.

I haven’t seen a Carter rip kit on a shelf in…. Wow! I can’t even remember when it was. I was a kid that’s for sure.
NOS units may still be around but I’m not sure how well the gasket material would hold up even if it was still air right after decades.

Edelbrock would be my second choice.
I don’t know where the speciality shops get there stuff from.

There actually still made that way today?
I haven’t seen that in 25 years.

I've seen speciality reman leather pump diaphragms for 50's ford teapots and stuff like that. the newer stuff (general 60's 70's carbs) all I've seen is GFLT (viton), buna-n material or rubber.

the Edelbrock kit that summit sells comes with both top gaskets and I'm fairly certain all the others for either flavor. the echlin or standard ones from car quest/napa have been okay for me too. but I'd gladly pay a premium for the right stuff from a speciality supplier
