If a stock bore in a 400 block is 4.342. And you are .060 over (4.402), using a 440 crank at 3.75, then you have 456 C.I. Rod length, deck height, etc. does not affect the displacement. Only bore and stroke. .07 over would be 458.

pi x r^2 x stroke x 8 = C.I.

So the other motor is also a 456 ? 440 steel crank 3.75 throw 400 rods Keith black 215 standard size pistons 452 heads .. doesn't make sense .. JE site specs =
part #213453 462 CID 4.375 .030 crank 3.750 rods 6.768 deck 9.963 1.320 11.4 10.5 10.1 -6cc 558 E 0.030 J100F8-4375-5

I'm using the 440 scat pack H beam rods 6.768 as to the 400 6.385 So 400 std. bore = 440 + .020"; 400 +.010" = 440 + .030", etc.
426 bore & stroke includes "street wedge", Max Wedge (Ramcharger) & 426" hemi.

I use a different formula. I don't get pi involved. LOL I use the old school bore x bore x stroke x .785 x number of cylinders. Works everytime. ALL you need to figure cubes is bore and stroke. PERIOD. The 456.3 is correct for the info you gave.

Thanks but the tech guru at Hughes engines said with 400 B at 4.342 and the .060 over bore 440 rods 6.78 440 crank3.75 puts the cid at 473 cubics .. which is similar to the jenson piston site if you want more hp cubes go bigger n use a stroker kit like me.

This is correct and the easiest formula to use. To the OP.....your posts are INCREDIBLY hard to read and understand!

He's wrong. 4.342 plus .060 equals 4.402. So, 4.402, times 4.402 equals 19.377604 times the stroke, 3.75 equals 72.666015 times .785 equals 57.042821 times number of cylinders (eight) equals 456.34256.

I don't give a **** what some "tech guru" says at Hughes. He's dead nuts wrong. There's the furmula. Work it for yourself. I cannot make it any clearer for you. I would find another "tech guru" if I were you. Once again, bore and stroke. The rods haven't a flippin thing to do with it.

I agree stroker,it,s 456.and some change which does not matter, the problem is if thet put some number in as the last digit, 456.574,or a added digit in the bore number or stroke. But the bottom line is,the other guys better learn some math and read some automotive math books, mrmopartech

Same here I've used (BORE X BORE X STROKE X .7854 X THE NUMBER OF CYLINDERS) for years now, you can't go wrong.

Wrong again the 440 rods are what make the 44o CID Taller bore smaller cylinders than a 400 ,+ 400 the bore size is 4.432 .. not 4.402 . If they make these kits "pistons and crate motors " they should no something about it.. PS u two should get a room ..
stop showing us ur boobs..

Your right everyone else is wrong. You remind me of a lesson my Dad taught me years ago. "NEVER ARGUE WITH A MORON, THEY WILL DRAG YOU DOWN TO THEIR LEVEL AND BEAT YOU WITH EXPERIENCE!"

I read theres a different way to check CID using same method to CC cylinder heads with a liquid volume pitcher .. Anyone ever heard of that ? X 8 ..

You said the block is .060 over. Stock 400 bore is 4.342. Plus .060 is 4.402. 4.432 is .090 over. You're the one that's wrong. Rods have nothing to do with the cubic inch displacement. Even with your bore this time at 4.342, you only have a 462.5 cubic inch engine. You're simply incorrect. If Hughes is telling you this, they are incorrect as well.

Nope. That would leave out the entire cylinder. You've been given TWO correct formulas for cubic inch displacement.

ur method i get 829.75 where do u get .785 from ??? volume has nothing to do with u are saying ??? than all these company's selling pistons and stroker kits are wrong ... Call them up tell them that then tell me who's the moron ? Hello Operator like to make a collect call to SRP to tell them they are wrong also KB and a few others false advertisement ... 440 source maybe them too.

the shop went past .060 over bore due to a pit cylinder wall block was sonic checked good up to a .100 over bore try that with ur 440's

Pay attention to the STROKE... The 500 inch kit has a 4.15 STROKE, not a 3.75 stroke and the rod length means NOTHING in that determination.
