block decoding

is there a thread in this fourm on how to decode a block to see if it is matching to the car? i have a 70' GTX i am working on for a friend and its got a date correct 440 in it, im just not sure if it is the matching block to the car. thanks guys!

this is easy. on the blocks oil pan rail on right side about midway there is a machined pad about 1/2 x3" with stamping on it. the last 6 of that stamping should match the last 6 of cars vin. if it does - bingo it matches.
