Just out of curiosity, I wondered what everyone uses to clean and prevent rust on their block, heads, etc when you get them back from the machine shop.
I have used Fantastic, Simple Green, etc. with appropriate brushes, cleaning 3 or 4 times and then wiping down bores and machined surfaces with WD-40.
This engine may not be assembled for a few months for a number of reasons that are not pertinent to this discussion.
Is there something better and/or longer lasting than WD-40 to coat the bores and machined surfaces prior to assembly?
I will bag it to keep dust and bugs out after prepping for storage. I use a silk like material bag so that it breathes and does not collect moisture but is is woven tightly enough to keep dust out. My mother made it for me about 60 years ago when I was working in a dirt floored garage.
I thank all who reply and appreciate the advice and information.
