body crack around door striker

hey i just noticed that the around the striker on the driver side door jam the body has started to crack around it . it looks like the spot welds holding the brace inbehind the striker have broken . was wondering if its a common problem and is there a easy fix or do i have to weld it and repaint the door jam .. thanks
 
Yup it's a pretty common problem and yup you pretty much described the fix.
 
This is what I use to repair the problem . There is a left and a right

The problem is caused by worn door hinges, or not aligned . Closing the door, when the stacker does not align with the door latch , causes the door jamb metal to flex and break

Yep, that's the piece to use. They also have a door handle reinforcement piece for the door handles that's pretty cool.

Keepin the hinges in good repair is so much more labor cost effective.
 
I've used dynamic renovation and the part fit just perfectly. Just follow the instructions, weld the new piece in and grind it down to make is smooth. Finish up with a bit of primer and it looks good as new.
 
We just did the hinges on a 69 Charger; heave azz doors. All kits wrong. We found a new pin that fitted another kit bronze bushing, drilled out the bracket (had to grind on the bronze). Tight swing.
 
when I repaint my car last winther I used the dynamic renovation kit

right on great product great service

I wish all the company could make great product like that
 
I have a lot of work ahead of me in this regard. A previous owner had the entire circumference of the mount welded to the body.

The problem is also that all A-bodies relied on the thin sheet metal to hold the pin backing plate which was a poor design. A badly aligned door didn't help the problem.
