Boeing 787 Dreamliner

Just watched a new 787 Dreamliner take off. This is a pretty incredible plane.
Made of composite materials, 20% less fuel usage and extremely quiet.
It reached 180 mph and jumped up into the air in about a 1/2 mile. For its size thats pretty damn good.

The wings flex so much during flight that the tips are higher than the top of the fuselage.

...and to think I watched 707 pilot training in Denver in '59, and ended up building parts for them for several years.

Let's hope its reliable and sells like crazy. Boeing has a big impact on the economy.

I was doing runway improvements at Paine Field when the 787 was doing power up test runs on the main runway and then got to watch the maiden take off from the hill behind the taxiway with the airport and Boeing employees. Way cool to watch the wings load up and flex before the plane leaves the ground!!
