I use an old pogo stick over my pipe wrench for leverage.

Looks like the pipe wrench is resting on the ball mount, not the bumper.

I try to buy balls with flats on the sides or a hex base.

It's still a ***** sometimes.

I've absolutely done that same trick before with other stubborn bolts/nuts and a floor jack vs the weight of the car.

Yep, pipe wrench on the yoke with a socket and breaker bar on the nut with the floor jack under the breaker bar.
