Brake pedal shaft

Hi all. I'm in process of getting my 67 ready to accept motor and trans. I have "finished" brakes, but I have a question.

At end of rod that attaches to brakes pedal lever, the hole is very large. So large that unless I firmly tighten nut, it moves around. If I tighten nut so that doesn't happen, then rod is bound to lever and it needs to move.

Any help with this is greatly appreciated!!
