I have a 71 duster that came from factory with a 318. Not quite sure if the the a-230 transmission and 8 3/4 rearend is factory though. Anyway I am trying to find new drums for the rear and I am havingh a hard time. Schucks doesnt show 10" brakes for the rear on my car but that is what is has. It has small bolt pattern all around and the rear drums are flared in the back. Does it matter if I get the same ones?

Your Duster would have only had an 8-3/4 rear if it had a 340 engine stock. Someone probably put the 8-3/4 in it.

I'm sorry I don't know what you mean by "your drums are flared". My 68 Cuda has a 8-3/4 rearend with 10" drum brakes in back. Maybe ask for parts for a car like it and see what they come up with.

crap....well picture a drum with the back (open side) flared like a brake line. The axle did not come with the car

Sounds like you have the "Darthvader Drums". If you do, you can use any A-Body drums. I think they are 10x2 1/4. A body drums are still avialable from NAPA and Advance. The "flared" out part was just to try and get rid of heat faster. Good Luck

Small bolt circle A-body 10" rear drums are 10" x 1 3/4". All other cars that used a 10" drum in the back are 10" x 2 1/2" and in 73 with the shift to big bolt pattern and the 8.25 axle the rear drums went to 10" by 2 1/2" on the A-body. The A-body 10 x 1 3/4 drum is hard to come by.

You can't use any other drum on the 8.75" unless the axle has been modified to move the flange further away from the end of the axle tube.

you do not have to have a 340 car to have an 8 3/4. i had a 1971 demon sizzler 318, 3-speed, 8 3/4, all original.

these are common drums on dusters & demons with that size of drum

If your car still has it's original fender tag it can be decoded by someone who knows how. That will tell exactly what options the car had. Whether or not the 8-3/4 is original just for one thing. Sorry but I don't have a reference to the codes on the fender tags though. Maybe somebody else here does though.
