I managed to break one of the studs for lowering and raising the steering wheel while I was re-installing my instrument panel. Anyone know if I can just replace the stud? Or is this going to be a bigger hassle?

Drop column, you can see the stud sticking out. Grab it with vice grips and remove it. Put in another stud, they are very handy when installing the column.

Yes it can be replaced. As noted, lower the column some with the nut on the other side and remove the broken stud. Unless previously over-tightened, bound up or corroded, they are often not real tight. Vice Grip pliers or Vampliers work well for grasping the broken stud if it is sticking out enough.

for times there is no torque spec...

look up the generic torque specs for the size bolt (just a guess 5/16 -18) its not a lot

I know most of you have calibrated arms :poke:

But using a torque wrench is the way to go!

On my 67 Dart, the stud is 1/4-20 and there are 2 just under the dash, the forward most one is a bolt.

I'm going to a wrecking yard Saturday and If there are any studs I'll pull them if I can.

I rescued 2 studs from the wrecking yard over the weekend.

yours free for shipping, if you haven't gotten any yet. PM me if you need them

BTW the studs are 1/4- 20 on both ends and 2.02" long, the short end has 0.400" length of threads, the unthreaded area is .25" the long, the threaded end is 1.37"

I was going to say- the studs are the same all the way into the early 1990's.

the two I picked up actually cam off of a 66 barracuda, but were the same as the ones in Vaanth's photo and the same thread as on my 67 Dart
