I was finally bolting my 8 3/4 carrier into my housing. Torqued all nuts to 30 ft-lb, then went up to the 45 ft-lb. I got two of them done and on the third it just kept on turning. It felt like the stud was turning in the housing. Then... SNAP. Bummer. That happened on two studs.

Well, now I have to get new studs. Anyone know where I can get these? I was going to try NAPA tomorrow.

Is it good practice to replace these each time? Also, should I replace the axle flange studs too?

Oh well, live and learn...

I think that those studs are the same as the studs that holds the bearing retainer and backing plate on the ends of the axles.

I checked at NAPA and they do not carry these studs. So I sent an e-mail to Doctor Diff. to see if he sells them. We'll see...

The carrier studs do not have the flat side on the head like the axle flange studs.
