I have found a 65 V8 cable actuated 904 Transmission from a floor shift Barracuda.

Will this transmission work with the 65 Valiant Slant Six Column Shift Shifter cables?

I am swapping out a Slant Six for a 66 273 V8. I'm hoping this will solve my shifter / linkage / steering column issues.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thank you for your help

Your column shifter cables should bolt right in to the '65 904, internally it's the same as your old slant 6 904. You'll have to drop the pan and get inside to swap them out, the procedure is in the '65 FSM. It's a good time to adjust your bands and get a new filter on there while the pan's off.
Your speedo drive gear and cable will also swap right over from the slant transmission.

Do you know if the rebuild kits are the same for the Slant and 273?
Thank you very much for the information.

No difference in the kits. However, if I were you, I'd count the number of friction and steel plates in your transmission before you order a kit. Here is an example of why you should do this>> there could be in the front (high/reverse drum)3-5 frictions and 3-5 steel plates, in the rear drum (forward) 3-4 frictions and 3-4 steels. And make sure you tell them this is for a 1965 transmission as I believe that there is a sub kit you need to order to make the gasket and seal kit fit the early transmission. The catalog I have in front of me says the gasket and seal kit fits from 1972 and on, but there is a note that for 1960-1971 transmissions to order the sub kit. Rather than order your kit from your local auto parts store, it might be to your benefit to order from a transmission parts supplier such as like Trans-Star. Your local NAPA or the like store may not have this information available to them. There is a company called Fatsco Transmission Parts (800-524-0485) who specialize in parts for older transmissions and your 1965 transmission will so be celebrating it's 65th Birthday.
