I have searched every book I can find and every web site I can find and nothing on cam bearing positioning. does anyone have this information? #5 at 12:00 #4 ??? and so on. Thanks

Each bearing has holes for oil passages. You have to install them so the oil holes in the bearing line up with the oil holes in the block. At the engine factory, we allowed the holes to be half covered max. Any more and we made them remove the bearings and install new ones. Hopefully you can get better than 50% misalignment.

front of the block, bigger diameter. smaller diameter. at rear of the block.

I have re-placed the #4 bearing while the engine was still the Dart.

Fashioned a PVC pipe with a flat washer at the business end and a
piece of wood turned to bearing I.D. size, thru the washer into the PVC pipe.
slid a 5# mallet into the other end handle first, to act as a slide hammer.

put the cam bearing on dry ice for a short time.

worked great.

way TOO cheap to acutely go out and BUY a bearing install tool.
