Cam Key ????

Why do cam manufactures always ship without the key ? Always have to pull the one out of the cam that was pulled. I'm not sure this is a rant, but just don't know the sense in it. Thus the question.......
 
I think it's probably because they don't know "where" you're going to end up installing the cam so they just leave it out. That way you can put whichever offset key you want when you degree it.

Of course, I don't use the offset keys anyway, since they are hard to find. I just get a timing set with the nine keyway crank sprocket.

I tend to agree though. It should come with a zero key.....even if it's uninstalled.
 
Probably because it's too easy to lose during packing and shipping.
If they included it and it was in the slot, chances are 75% of customers would not realize its not a separate part and would lose it in the engine and blow something up.
Or maybe cam makers are just cheap? Easier to sell you a key than have most people toss the included part.
