Was researching buying a new camera. Was really giving buying a mirror less body. At the present time Canons EOS R5 is their premiere mirror less body. One of the things that I see mentioned in a lot of reviews is its miserable battery life. The sensor is a "full frame"...and it is a whopping 47.1 mega pixel. My way of thinking...may not be the right way of thinking...each pixel is a bucket that collects light...which is what photography is, the capturing of light. I have been using a 1DX Mark II for a while now, it is also a full frame sensor. It has a 20.2 mega pixel sensor...so using my way of thinking it is going to superior to the R5 in low light...and my Mark II works very well in low light. Enter the 1DX Mark III. Full frame sensor, 20.1 mega pixels. Obviously the R5's image size, when shooting in RAW format (the only way I shoot) is gigantic. Shooting in RAW allows me to edit the image to my liking. I read in a lot of reviews of the R5 that many folks shoot in CRAW, which compresses the file. Makes very little sense to me to have the option of shooting in RAW to shoot in CRAW, which really compresses the image, from what I have read down to about half its original format. For those that don't know when you shoot JPEG the camera compresses the image....a lot.
Anyway...I went with the 1 DX Mark III. I shot 3260 images at the MX track on Friday & Saturday night. I used 1 fully charged battery. Still has 37% capacity left. I have read that many folks get 500 images on a R5 battery...which is simply not acceptable. The image I posted here...has zero noise control down to it. ISO was 25600...which many people simply refuse to shoot at because of the noise it creates. Only editing done to this image was I knocked the highlights done a bit, the lights at the MX track are EXTREMELY harsh. I did not even have my eye on the view finder...just aimed the camera in the general direction of the racer. Love this camera. Wish I could afford another one...

I think you are looking down the wrong road. You already have the top end of world class equipment. Hell even my lowly 7D is an awesome piece of machinery compared to "what was had" just a FEW years ago
(On a side note I recently bought a refurb 5DmkII. Never thought I'd dip into full frame)

The other issue with mirrorless is that THE SENSOR IS ALWAYS ON. It is always exposed (because it must feed the eyepiece/ rear display/ whatever "viewing device") and is therefore always a potential victim of damage due to sun/ welding/ other bright light events.

This alone is likely why battery life will always suck

I am not convinced that dumping the shutter is the right way to go for most of the world
