So I am swapping an A-body 8.75 into my 69 Dart. Now i currently have a 7.25 out of my old 74 scamp in it now. I am also going to use the 7.25 drum brakes. I remember seeing somewhere on the internet that the length from flange to flange is the exact same on these rear ends. Can someone confirm this for me? My car is in storage and i cant measure the 7.25 and I want to order my new axles very soon. I only have about 1/4 inch of wiggle room because of my rear wheels so i need to make sure.

Thanks guys!

Yes the 8.75 is a direct swap from the 7.25. However they might have two different bolt patterns.

My 7.25 is large bolt pattern.. so if i get the large bolt pattern axles from Dr. Diff... i should be able to keep the 7.25 drums and put it right in??

Dr. Diff might be able to help with that question. I would want to compare the two housings side by side with that tight a tolerance.

the axles required to use your big brakes on the 8.75 will space the wheels out 3/8 per side...so that ain't what you want...

Why cant i use the brakes that are on my car now? They are large bolt pattern drums from my 74 scamp.

because the factory small brakes used a shallower axle...to keep the wheel spacing the same, you would need to shorten the 8.75 by about 3/8 per side...

Do yourself a favor. Order your axles (either moser or dr. Diff) with the setup for the B Body Brakes. This way you can ditch the small crappy a body 10x1.75 brake and use the later big brakes of 11x2.5, I have these for my duster.

I agree... but i am going to upgrade to the mustang rear brakes very soon... was just hoping the small drums would get me buy for a little bit.. didnt want to buy more parts that im going to get rid of by the end of the summer.

Thanks! Ill narrow the diff if i have to... but just trying to see if i can avoid that in any way.
