Can the bubbler steering coupler upgrade handle the heat?

I got my hands on the steering coupler updated rubber cover instead of the metal cover with the tabs you pean over, my header tubes are 1/4" away if I run this without the hose clamp, I didn't know if they were a silicon type , I'll need to update with a photo shortly

So I bailed on the new style rubber coupler cover
Due to heat / headers concerns, I I stalled the spring clip but can't clip it over the roll pin on that one side

If you look at the illustrations in the ebay listing that was linked you can see the roll pin needs to be nearly flush with the surface of the coupler housing.
 
I tried 2 supplied roll pins out of 2 different kits and they both bottom out I believe, is there a stop or should I keep trying
